LC2

When the Swansea LC2, opened its doors it wanted a visitor information system that reflected the leisure centre's role as centrepiece of the redevelopment of Swansea City Centre. The LC2 is the £32 million replacement for the former Swansea Leisure Centre that was formally opened by Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness Prince Phillip. It is now a major City attraction for people in the surrounding areas and visitors to the City.

As visitors enter the LC2 building they are greeted by an array of large LCD screens above the ticket office. Two of the screens are specific to the Water Sports Centre, the remaining screens carry news of forthcoming events. Each screen is made up of three areas: the largest area can be used to show news of forthcoming events and advertise the LC2's range of activities. Another part of the screen is given over to notices for visitors and is text based, whilst the bottom of each screen features a RSS ticker tape newsfeed. To supplement this afurther 12 screens are installed throughout the leisure centre in the children's play area, ground and first floor coffee bars, gym and water park.

“Leisure Centre Management is all about providing excellent facilities and encouraging visitors to try new activities in a pleasant environment. Given the variety of activities at the centre we wanted a way of communicating with visitors that attracted and held their attention and also fitted into the modern design of the LC2. Saturn’s solution gives us this ability,” said the sales and marketing manager, LC2.

“So far the LC2 has attracted over 100,000 visitors per month and is well on its way to achieving a million visitors this year, in no small part thanks to Saturn’s digital signage messaging,” he noted.
