Digital signage specialist Saturn is exhibiting alongside screen technology provider NEC Display Solutions at eHealth Insider (EHI) Live 2010 (Stand D3).

The two-day trade show and conference, held at Birmingham’s NEC arena, is organised by the online healthcare news and information portal of the same name and is set to host over 100 exhibitors across 3,000m2. Now in its third year and self-billed as “the largest and most important UK healthcare IT event”, EHI Live aims to bring together the health community to discuss and debate the issues and developments that face professionals involved in healthcare IT.

Saturn has recently rolled-out NEC hardware in a number of NHS digital signage installations across the UK. The screens – featuring on board PC technology – are used to display dynamic content powered by the Connectvision part of Saturn’s suite of digital communication software. Typical patient information content includes wayfinding signage as well as latest Trust news, details of infection control initiatives and general public announcements. The Connectvision suite has also been successfully harnessed for employee engagement schemes by deploying targeted rich media content direct to hospital staff’s desktop PCs. One such screensaver solution was installed on behalf of The University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB), and was awarded ‘Best Internal Communications’ by The Association of Healthcare Communicators (AHC) in 2009.

“Healthcare has become a key sector for us over the last couple of years,” said Saturn’s Sales and Marketing Director, Joe Till. “It seems that digital signage is becoming to the healthcare community what it was to cinema 10 years ago. Obviously the technology’s come on a long way since then but we’re seeing a similar sudden rise in demand. Healthcare organisations are now required to be much more transparent and digital signage offers a new and meaningful way to communicate with all stakeholders in a timely manner. I’d go so far as to say that digital signage is a ‘must have’ in healthcare environments today.”

Saturn’s extensive experience in NHS digital signage installations – as well as its wider public sector portfolio – pays off for Trusts seeking a solid understanding of the specific restraints surrounding NHS schemes, as well as end-to-end digital signage expertise. Just recently the Saturn team designed and deployed a screen network across three sites within an ambitious two week window on behalf of Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh (WWL) NHS Foundation Trust. While comparable installations typically take between six to eight weeks to complete, Saturn worked with the Trust to ensure as swift a turn-around as possible in order to meet business deadlines.

“We’re all too aware of the intricacies involved in planning an installation with minimal disruption to patient care,” said Joe. “Because we cover every aspect of digital signage – from strategy right through to managing the actual installation and ongoing content management – we are often called upon to work alongside alternate providers in a consultancy capacity, as well as managing our own deployments.”
